We would like to add two more tips:

1. For safety and security, give a copy of your itinerary and emergency phone numbers to a loved one back at home.
2. Make a packing list to ensure that you don’t forget to pack what you need. A packing list also allows you to only pack the necessary items for the trip so you don’t have to bear with extra weight.

I’m also an advocate of Lonely Planet. Although, I’ve changed the way I use the guides. I used to take them traveling everywhere with me. Nowadays, I might look at them for ideas, but leave them during the hotel and then go exploring. There are so many maps online nowadays that I rarely need it and it’s good to get lost from time to time.

I’ve heard many times about World Nomads, but never thought about using them until now. Will look into it for my next trip, they seem affordable.

Such great tips! I’ve been doing a lot of European City Breaks, but I know I’m going to book a longer trip and end up forgetting about vaccinations, so this is such a great call. It’s also my worst nightmare as I hate needles. Insurance is always a big deal. I book yearly round the world insurance so I don’t get caught out.
